Is it New York’s film tax credit? Is it the scenery? Whatever it is, HBO located a number of major shoots in the area this year, including “Succession” and the miniseries “The Plot Against America” and “I Know This Much Is True.” Meanwhile, the James Franco directed “The Pretenders” debuted at The Palace Theatre, where it also filmed.
Ben Stiller even dropped by The Times Union Center for Film Albany‘s conference that focused on shooting in the area.
As shoots become more common in the area, there are more intriguing venues for these films to garner buzz as the Adirondack Film Festival in Glens Falls, Film Columbia in Chatham and the New York State International Film Festival continue to grow. Local filmmakers are embarking on ambitious new projects to premiere at these as well.
With more talent spending time in the area, and making their roots here, will we see increased demand for talent, production facilities and other major content creators taking advantage of the area?
