Auditions: Blackout Creative Arts Festival
Citizen Action of New York is holding auditions for their first annual Blackout Festival, a celebration and day of action commemorating Black August and the sacrifices made by past and present liberation movements. Artists must perform pieces that resonate with black bodies and their experiences (no more than three works can be shown during the audition) and be entertaining. This is the last chance to audition. The festival takes place Aug. 24. Contact Amy Jones at aajones@citizenactionny.org with questions or concerns.
@ Citizen Action of New York, Albany | 6 PM

Beck and Cage the Elephant
Watch the white boys get funky as Scientology’s 10th or 11th favorite son and the dudes who decided it would be a good idea to combine The Pixies-style riffs with rap-rock posturing. Check out our interview with the band, wear some sunscreen, drink a lot of beer and go to the afterparty and you’ll be fine.
@ SPAC, Saratoga Springs | 6 PM | $29-$200

The Past is Poetry
Poems will include historic selections written or loved by the bygone members of Albany’s Cherry Hill household read by Suzanna Bornn, Janet Hurley Kimlicko and Tony Pallone as well as poet-read contemporary pieces based on the past by Thom Francis, Mary Panza, Bob Sharkey, Nancy Klepsch and Dan Wilcox.
