This weekend The Collaborative went without sleep while documenting Basilica Hudson’s immersive, cathartic and devastatingly beautiful 24-Hour Drone festival. We’ll have essays, galleries and full-video performances to share with you in the days to come. Check out our Facebook page and Instagram for some of the initial coverage.
In the meantime, the biggest music news to come from the night–despite some surprise performances–was the announcement of the initial lineup of Basilica Soundscape 2019 which will feature critical darlings Low.
Soundscape is produced by Basilica owner Melissa Auf der Maur, Kate Hewett and Brandon Stosuy of The Creative Independent and formerly of Pitchfork. It will take place September 13-15.
Tickets are available now.
So far the bill is made up of some of the most provocative and praised underground experimental acts in the world today. You can see the initial lineup plus David Howard King’s head in the below image. But here are some of the highlights:
Jessica Moss: An experimental violinist who is part of the collective of musicians behind Godspeed You Black Emperor.
Big Brave: Doomy spawn of the Montreal Godspeed scene who regularly collaborated with Moss and performed with her at 24-Hour Drone 2019.
The Body: Industrial-doom freaks who are notorious for collaborations with Full of Hell, Thou, Krieg etc.
Lingua Ignota: A classically trained vocalist who has turned her experience in an abusive relationship into a terrifyingly poignant and cacophonous industrial project.
Cloud Rat: A grindcore band with strikingly punk ideals.
Waxahatchee: Katie Crutchfield’s popular experimental indie project.
-
- Lamar: The one-person industrial project by the twin brother of Orange is the New Black’s Laverne Cox.
